David De Gea apologises to Man United fans after costly error against Chelsea

- David De Gea's goalkeeping blunder saw Man United held to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea

- United opened the scoring in the 11th minute via Juan Mata with Marcos Alonso equalising for the Blues

- The Red Devils remain sixth on the log even as Chelsea cemented their place in fourth with 68 points

Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea, was forced to apologise to club fans after his howler that saw Chelsea equalise in a tough Premier League match played on Sunday, April 28, at Old Trafford.

The match finished 1-1 at full-time, with Marcos Alonso grabbing the important point for the Blues in the 43rd minute after canceling out Juan Mata's early opener.

De Gea was at fault for the equaliser after erroneously palming Antonio Rudiger's 25-yard shot that Alonso carefully tucked into the back of the net.

The Spaniard's blunder was his third in the last four matches, making more mistakes this season that have resulted to goals than his previous five Premier League campaigns.

United fans, however, showed support to De Gea despite the howler as the shot-stopper left the field at halftime.

On his part, De Gea demonstrated remorse at the Stretford End, apologising to the supporters by raising his arm before making his way to the tunnel.

The Spaniard has entered the final year of his contract with the Red Devils and the club has made little progress in reaching a new deal for him.

De Gea is understood to be demanding wages equal with Alexis Sanchez's, who incidentally is the club and league's top earner.
