Norwich, Sheffield United gain automatic qualification into Premier League

- Norwich City and Sheffield United will be playing in the Premier League next season

- Both sides gained promotion with respective wins over Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town

- The last promotion slot will be decided through playoffs involving teams ranked from third to sixth

Norwich City and Sheffield United gained automatic promotion into the Premier League after coming first and second respectively in the Championships.

Norwich who have been absent in the elite division in last three years, laboured to a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers to book a their spot.

The Canaries last appearance in the English topflight lasted for just a single season as they finished 19th in 2015-16 campaign under the guidance of Alex Neill.

On the other hand, Sheffield United returned to the topflight action after 13-year absence following their 2-1 win over Ipswich Town.

And the controversial 1-1 draw between Leeds United and Aston Villa guaranteed the Blades' automatic ticket.

With one game left to play in the Championships, the last promotion slot will be determined through playoffs.

The third, fourth fifth and sixth placed sides will go into promotion playoffs, then will play the final at the Wembley Stadium.

Leeds United, West Bromiwich Albion and Aston Villa are already in the playoffs spots while the last slot will be contested between Derby County and Middlesbrough following the outcome of their final league game of the season.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Marcelo Bielsa told his team Leeds United to allow Aston Villa walk the ball into the net as his side scored a controversial opener in a Championship game that ended in a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Leeds who were on course for a playoff spot scored through Mateusz Klich while Villa's Jonathan Kodjia was down injured.
