Manchester United fans have thrown their weight behind David de Gea following the error made by the Spanish goalkeeper against Chelsea.

The Red Devils took on Chelsea in a Premier League game played at Old Trafford and ended the first half on a disappointing note after De Gea's blunder gifted the Blues their equalizer.

United had already taken the lead through Juan Mata in the 11th minute after lashing on to a cross from Luke Shaw to give the home side the deserved lead.

But out of nothing, Maurizio Sarri's men leveled matters when the Spanish shot-stopper committed another blunder in as many matches this season.

The ex-Atletico Madrid star could not handle Antonio Rudiger's 25-yard shot as it fell kindly to Alonso who was quicker to react to the rebound as the ball found its way into the back of the net.

However, United faithfuls were heard chanting De Gea's name as a show of support at Old Trafford as players returned into the field for the second 45 minutes.

The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw as United's chances of finishing in the Premier League top four became slimmer.

There had been were calls for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop De Dea after his two mistakes led to goals in the 2-0 defeat by rivals Manchester City last Wednesday.

That came on the back of earlier errors against Arsenal, Wolves, Barcelona and Everton , with the uncertainty over De Gea's future cited as a reason for his loss of focus and form.
