Chelsea vs Man United: Alonso cancels out Mata's strike as United, Chelsea settle for 1-1 draw

Manchester United vs Chelsea settled for a 1-1 draw in a Premier League top four battle played at Old Trafford.

After just 11 minutes, United got their noses in front as Luke Shaw made a clever run into the box to find Juan Mata who slammed home to make it 1-0.

Chelsea tried to fight their way back into the match but they could not get clinical in the final third.

Eric Bailly came close to doubling United's lead in the 30th minute but his header went just wide from an Ashley Young's corner.

The Blues got themselves leveled in the match in the 43rd minute after David de Gea spilled an Antonio Rudiger's 25-yard shot as Marcos Alonso cleverly reacted to the rebound to make it 1-1.

Both sides went into the break with the top four place finish up for grabs and Chelsea having the upper hand if the match ended in a draw.

The second had most of the action played in the midfield as both sides won and lost possession but United seem to be the hungrier with two shots on target.

And the managers also lost a player each to injury with Rudiger and Bailly bowing out with respective knee injuries as well as Marcus Rashford substituted for a suspected shoulder problem.

Pedro Rodriguez hand an off-the-line clearance from a Marcos Rojo's header which was heading straight into the back of the net.

The match failed to produce any further goals as both sides shared the spoils with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be heading into the dressing room disappointed.
