Gunmen reportedly kill police, kidnap 2 Shell workers in Rivers

Some suspected gunmen have reportedly killed two police and kidnapped two Shell workers in Rivers state.

Vanguard reports that the state police spokesman, Omoni Nnamdi, on Saturday, April 27, confirmed the incident, saying efforts are in top gear towards ensuring the release of the victims.

Nnamdi said: ''Efforts are in top gear towards ensuring that we get them out from the custody of their abductors.''

It was learnt that the attack took place on Thursday afternoon, April 25, in the Rumuji district of the state.

In a related development, some gunmen also ambushed a 30-seater bus on that same day, killing the driver and abducting more than a dozen passengers. The police, however, said all the hostages were freed safely soon after.

Earlier, reported that suspected gunmen killed a driver with the Abua Odual local government transport service, Jonah Sokolo. The kidnappers also made away with all the other passengers in the 30-seater coaster bus.

The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, April 25, along Emohua axis of the East-West road in Rivers state.

It was learnt that the bus was heading to Abua Oduah town when the kidnappers ambushed them along the deadly route, which has become road users' nightmare.

According to the online medium, the public relations officer of the Rivers state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident but said the details were still sketchy.

An eyewitness who narrated his harrowing experience was quoted to have said that his brother was a victim of the kidnappers last weekend. ( -> Same great journalism, upgraded for better service!
