APC attacks Secondus over comment on insecurity, says PDP seeking relevance

- APC has faulted the comment of the PDP's chairman, Uche Secondus, on insecurity and economy

- APC's spokesperson, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the comment was an attempt by PDP to make itself relevance after defeat

- In a rejoinder, PDP described APC's reply as mischievous, saying it can't keep silent when people are being killed in the country

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has described the recent attack of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on President Muhammadu Buhari as a ploy by the opposition party to "find a way back to the front page of newspapers."

Lanre Issa-Onilu, the national spokesperson of the APC, while reacting to the comment by PDP chairman, Prince Uche Secondus on Channels TV, said the attack on the president was a ploy by the opposition party to make itself relevant again.

He said the ruling party would not take PDP and its leadership serious because APC has come to realised that Secondus and other leaders of the opposition party are still baffled by the reality of their defeat in the last general election.

He said: “It would have been unnecessary for any response at all to come from us as the ruling party but I suspect that the national chairman of the PDP may have stumbled on one of the statements they wrote pre-election.

“Because it sounded more like some of those campaign materials that were not used or that have been used repeatedly; for which the voters passed a verdict in the last election.”

Onilu said APC will not engage the main opposition party in war of world because the party is presently focused on how to clear the mess created by PDP's 16-year rule.

He added: “At this stage, what we are focused on is how to ensure that all these problems that were created for over 16 years of PDP maladministration; that they no longer exist and we have made tremendous progress.”

“In this country, we all know what this country was before the APC came; we all know the tremendous steps we have taken and the progress we have made so far.

“We are focused on that and we are focused on governance; we are focused on policy and implementation of our policies.”

In a counter reaction, the aide to the PDP presidential candidate and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shuaib, refuted the claim that the opposition party was seeking for relevance.

According to him, PDP can't feign ignorance to the high level of killing perpetrated across the country because lives of people are very important to it.

Shuaib said: “It is ludicrous to listen to this kind of vituperation coming from a ruling party because the lives of our people are very important to us.''

“It is unfortunate that this government is playing politics with the lives of our people. Security has been a challenge in this country under this present administration.”
