Igbo youths condemn APC's zoning positions in 9th National Assembly

- A coalition of south east youth has condemned the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila by APC as the leaders of 9th National Assembly

- The coalition said the endorsement is against the principle of federal character and it is an act of corruption which the APC claims to be fighting

- According to the Igbo youths, corruption is the process of nepotism, cronyism, patronage, parochialism and favoritism

A coalition of south east youth has claimed that the APC is lopsided in its zoning position of the Senate president and speaker of House of Representatives to the north east and south west zones respectively.

The coalition, in a statement jointly signed by its President Chief Goodluck Ibem, and Secretary Igwe Kanice, condemned the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila by APC as the leaders of 9th National Assembly, Independent reports.

The statement read: “We condemn in strong terms the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan representing Yobe north Senatorial zone in north east geo-political zone as APC candidate for Senate President of the 9th Senate and the endorsement of Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state by the APC leadership.

“This endorsement by the APC leadership is totally against the principle of Federal Character and it is an act of corruption which the APC claims to be fighting.

“Corruption is not only when money is misappropriated by those in political office. Corruption is the process by which a word or expression is changed from its original state to one regarded as erroneous or debased. Corruption is also the process of nepotism, cronyism, patronage, parochialism and favoritism.

“The plan to favour the south west and the north east geo-political zones is an act of corruption of the highest order.”

The group urged the APC led government to emulate Nnamdi Azikiwe who after fighting so much for the Independence of Nigeria, agreed and supported his brother Alhaji Tafawa Balewa as Prime Minister which was the head of government in 1960.

“Azikiwe did not count who did what and who gets what. He made that great sacrifice for the unity and indivisible Nigeria.

The APC led government needs to honour the wish of the great leader; Nnamdi Azikiwe for an indivisible Nigeria by giving the office of the Senate President and other principal positions in the House of Representatives to their brothers in the South-East which is the geo-political zone of the great legend.''

Legit.ng recently reported that the APC said it endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan for senate presidency after wide consultation with President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the party.

The national publicity secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a press conference on Wednesday, March 27 made this revelation.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that APC formally adopted Femi Gbajabiamila as its candidate for the position of the speaker of the House of Representatives in the incoming 9th National Assembly.

This was revealed by the national publicity secretary of the APC, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a short message sent to journalists on Tuesday night, April 16.
