- Neymar has been punished by UEFA for his comment after PSG 3-1 defeat to Man United in the Champions round of 16
- The Brazilian described the VAR officials in the game as a disgrace and claimed they know nothing about football
- Neymar's comment came after VAR awarded Man United a late penalty as Marcus Rashford converted to send his club through to the quarterfinals
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has been banned for three games in the Champions League following his comments in the aftermath of his club’s 3-1 surprise defeat at the hands of Man United, Mirror football reports.
Neymar who only recently made his return to the pitch after a long injury lay-off, furiously posted a message on social media, after Man United’s controversial penalty awarded against Presnel Kimpembe late on at the Parc des Princes.
The referee had initially given a corner kick, before VAR intervention subsequently saw a spot-kick awarded, as Marcus Rashford converted to send United through.
Just after the game, Neymar posted on Instagram: “This is a disgrace, they put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR.
"There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go f*** yourselves!”
There were also reports that the Brazilian came very close to forcing his way into the officials’ office after the game but he was stopped by PSG staff.
His outburst has not gone down well with UEFA who have now handed him a three-match ban, which means the 27-year-old will miss PSG’s first three games in the Champions League next season.
A UEFA statement declared: "The CEDB has decided to suspend the Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior for three (3) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible, for insulting match officials."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Neymar made his return to action from a broken foot in PSG's 3-1 win over Monaco last weekend - a result which secured another Ligue 1 title for the club.
PSG were crowned French Ligue 1 champions on Sunday night, April 21, after second-placed Lille battled to a goalless draw away to Toulouse.
