Pep Guardiola called Manchester City the best team in Premier League's history in an emotional message after the derby win.

City defeated neighbors United in the midweek Manchester derby after seeing off third place Tottenham last weekend.

And the Spanish boss told his men following the derby win: “That is why you’re the best team this league has ever seen.”

The players then broke into song in praise for German international Leroy Sane who scored the second goal.

The song hails Sane to the Buddy Holly tune from TV programme Heartbeat.

City’s win at Old Trafford moved them back to the top of the Premier League with a point ahead of Liverpool.

The Citizens are now just three matches away from becoming the first team to retain the title since United in 2009.

City will play at Turf Moore against Burnley at the weekend, then host Leicester at the Etihad and finish the season away to Brighton.

Guardiola said: “It’s tough because there are still three games to play — it is incredible, but it is what it is — and we still need to win our remaining games.

“I’ve told the players to rest, relax, don’t talk too much, don’t watch TV, just eat well and sleep because on Sunday we have another difficult game.

“Then we have eight days to prepare for Leicester, then another week to get ready for Brighton — hopefully, they will not need points to stay up!

“It’s game by game and that’s all we can do.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez is reportedly considering leaving the Premier League club this summer due to lack of active playing time this term under Pep Guardiola.

The African football star has been an unused substitute in each of City's last three games at a crucial stage of the campaign.
