Just in: Gunmen reportedly shoot bus driver, kidnap all passengers on East-West road

- Some suspected gunmen have reportedly killed a bus driver along East-West road in Rivers state

- The gunmen also kidnapped all the passengers in the 30-seater coaster bus

- An eyewitness said that his brother who is a driver was kidnapped from that same axis and the family had to paid N500,000 ransom to get him back

Suspected gunmen have reportedly killed a driver with the Abua Odual local government transport service, Jonah Sokolo.

Sahara Reporters reports that the kidnappers also made away with all the other passengers in the 30-seater coaster bus.

Legit.ng gathered that the incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, April 25, along Emohua axis of the East-West road in Rivers state.

It was learnt that the bus was heading to Abua Oduah town when the kidnappers ambushed them along the deadly route, which has become road users' nightmare.

According to the online medium, the public relations officer of the Rivers state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident but said the details were still sketchy.

An eyewitness who narrated his harrowing experience was quoted to have said that his brother was a victim of the kidnappers last weekend.

He said: ”My brother who is a driver was kidnapped from that same Emohua axis of East-West road, we had to paid N500,000 for them before my brother came out. If this didn't happen to you, you will not understand."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Rivers state police command declared a state of emergency on the East-West road over incessant killings, kidnapping and robbery of commuters who ply the Choba and Mbiama stretch of the road.

It was gathered that a safety alert went viral recently in the state warning commuters to avoid plying some road where kidnap and killing usually occur.
