Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state is planning to borrow the sum N32bn from Sterling Bank.
The lawmaker who represents Kogi west district in the National Assembly, made the allegation in a tweet on Friday, April 26.
He warned that Sterling Bank should expect a court action and a mass protest if it gives out the loan to the Kogi state government.
“Kogi State 4 sale soon as Yahaya Bello has concluded plans to borrow 32billion naira from Sterling Bank. If Sterling Bank make the mistake of giving Akotileta this money. We will go to court bc there is no compliance with our extant laws. The Bank should expect massive protest," Melaye tweeted.
Meanwhile, workers in Kogi state have been acutely battered and reduced to mere skeletons walking the streets and begging without any hope despite the over N200 billion received as monthly allocations, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said.
Daily Sun reports that the NLC said apart from the N200 billion, the state government under Yahaya Bello also received various bailouts and collected loans.
Despite these huge funds to the state, however, the government owes workers between eight and thirty-eight months in salaries to workers.
The NLC said many of the workers in Kogi state now suffer from various ailments leading to some deaths.
