Shkodran Mustafi: Arsenal fan compiles stats to show German is better than Van Dijk

- Shkodran Mustafi came under fire from fans following Arsenal's 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace

- Mustafi was at fault for two goals scored by the Eagles as the Gunners' hopes of finishing in the top four suffered a massive blow

- But a fan is convinced the German defender is actually better than Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk

An Arsenal fan has disagreed with several others, claiming Shkodran Mustafi is actually a better player than Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

Mustafi has endured a difficult season with the Gunners, with fans demanding the club to get rid of him in the summer due to his woeful performances.

The German defender was at fault for two goals as Arsenal suffered a 3-2 shock defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend.

However, one fan is unconvinced Mustafi is that bad after pulling together statistics to prove the 27-year old actually has a better record in the league than Van Dijk.

Dijk has been touted as a standout defender in the Premier League, having played an integral part in Liverpool's title quest this season.

The Dutchman has played 35 matches, seven more than Mustafi, making 34 tackles in the process, representing a 71 % success rate.

Mustafi, on the other hand has made 55 tackles, translating to a 73% success rate. He has also made a staggering 54 interceptions, 15 more than Van Dijk who is said to be having the best season of his football career.

The supporter, identified as Chris took to Twitter to make justification of his claim in a post captioned: "Unpopular opinion, but Mustafi is having a better season than Van Dijk."

Be that as it may, there are also areas that Van Dijk beat Mustafi, as he is the only defender who no player has successfully dribbled past in the last one year.

Nine of them have managed to do that past the Arsenal defender.
