CAN urges Bello to settle outstanding workers' salaries before his 1st term elapses

The Kogi state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has called on Governor Yahaya Bello to settle outstanding salaries of workers, pensions and gratuity before the end of his first term.

The call was made in a statement in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital, by the chairman of the association, Dr John Ibenu, Independent reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the governor was also urged to address the issues of judiciary staff who had been on strike and other pressing issues in the state.

He said: "We call on Kogi Government to do all it can to address the issue of staff salaries, pensions and gratuity, judiciary and other pressing issues to ameliorate the suffering of the people of the state.

Christians were urged the CAN chairman in the state to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ "which is love, sacrifice and forgiveness for a better society’’.

He said: "I wish all Christians in Nigeria and around the world celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a happy Easter."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state declared his interest to contest for a second term in office.

The governor’s decision was contained in a statement issued by Onogwu Muhammed, who is the chief press secretary to the governor, on Wednesday, April 17.

Bello was quoted as saying he decided to seek a second term after consultation with family and political stakeholders.

The statement reads: "The Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Wednesday, April 17, officially declared interest to contest the gubernatorial seat for a second term.

"He made this declaration at the banquet hall of the Government House, in Lokoja during the inauguration of the Kogi state House of Assembly Commission.

"Governor Bello said his declaration came after thorough consultations with the leadership of his party both at the National and state level and calls from the people of Kogi state on him to run again."
