Alex Iwobi has revealed he wants to walk in the foot-steps of his uncle Austin Okocha by winning the AFCON 2019 tournament in Egypt.

Jay Jay Okocha was an important member of the Super Eagles class of 1994 set when Nigeria clinched their second AFCON title in Tunisia.

Now the Arsenal attacker has grown into first team of Gernot Rohr's squad and the 22-year-old is expected to play a key role in his first appearance at the AFCON 2019 tournament.

“I’ve seen some of his highlights from 1994 and it would be cool to achieve that as well,”

“I’m excited, I have always dreamt of participating and representing my country at the Africa Cup of Nations, but it won’t be easy for us in Egypt

“Both dreams are coming true, hopefully I can get to play in Egypt.”

Iwobi made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) played in Belgium in 2015.

The Arsenal academy graduate has gone on to make 27 appearances for the Super Eagles but admits he is still learning how passionate Nigerian fans are with football.

Iwobi, who scored the goal that qualified Nigeria into the Russia 2018 World Cup added he enjoyed how the fans are comparing him with his uncle Jay Jay Okocha.

“I thought I understand what playing for Nigeria truly means, but the more I play in Nigeria and travel home, the more they [fans] make me believe bigger than I have always dreamt of,” he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Alex Iwobi has been ranked third among the top 20 U-25 players in Europe in a recent data released by Football Whispers.

The footballers were ranked according their ages, minutes played and the contributions made from open play for their respective teams.
