Troops kill 7 bandits, arrest 4 informants in Zamfara

- One soldier was killed during a duel between bandits and military troops

- Seven of the bandits were neutralised, while some escaped with possible gunshot wounds

- The bandits fled and abandoned their camps, which were set ablaze by the gallant troops

Troops of operation Sharar Daji and exercise Harbin Kunama III engaged bandits in a duel in various communities of Zamfara state.

A statement by Major Clem Abiade, force assistant director, Army public relation officer, in Gusau on Friday, April 19, disclosed that one soldier was killed and seven of the bandits were neutralised during the encounter, The Nation reports.

Ammunition were also recovered during the duel as gallant troops set ablaze the camps of the bandits.

A suspected informant was also arrested by troops while on patrol to Kara Market of Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara state. The arrest led to the arrest of three other suspects identified as Lawwali Denden, Salisu Na-mansu, Kabiru Kamarawa from Kamarawa village of Shinkafi axis and Mohammed Sani from Indiri village.

Abiade said the suspects have been handed over to appropriate security agencies for further interrogation and possible prosecutions.

While on clearance operation to Aljumma Fulani and Ketere villages in Zamfara state, troops in conjunction with the Nigerian Army Deep Blue Special Forces, NAF Air component and vigilantes had a fierce encounter with large number of well-armed bandits.

According to Abiade, success was recorded due to superior fire power of the troops. He said this enabled the military to compel the bandits to flee and abandon their camps, which were set ablaze by the gallant troops.

The statement read: “During the encounter, seven of the bandits were neutralised, while some escaped with possible gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, one soldier had paid the supreme sacrifice, six soldiers and a vigilante were wounded.

“Due to superior fire power of the troops, they were able to compel the bandits to flee and abandoned their camps which were set ablaze by the gallant troops.

“During the encounter, seven of the bandits were neutralised, while some escaped with possible gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, one soldier had paid the supreme sacrifice, 6 soldiers and a vigilante were wounded.

The ongoing dual military Operations Operation “Sharar Daji” and “exercise Harbin Kunama III,” is aimed at mitigating banditry and criminality that is on the high rise in Zamfara.

The vice chairman of Anka local government area of Zamfara state, Yahuza Wuya, was arrested recently for alleged link to bandits.

Legit.ng reported that Abiade said the council vice chairman was picked up on April 13 based on credible intelligence linking him to bandits’ activities in Wuya and Sunke communities.
