Barely two days after he was presented certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, April 18, announced the suspension of 12 local government chairmen in the state.
Legit.ng reports that the chairmen's suspension was announced in a short statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, Wike’s special assistant on electronic media.
According to the statement, the suspended council chairmen were those of Okrika; Emohua; Abua/Odual; Degema; Khana and Gokana local government areas (LGAs).
Others include: Ahoada east; Ikwerre; Eleme; Andoni; Omuma; and Ogu/Bolo LGAs.
Nwakaudu added that the affected council chairmen were suspended for failure to participate in an official function.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Wike said he was tired of being a governor after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented him his certificate of return as the re-elected governor of Rivers state.
The Rivers state governor who made the disclosure on Tuesday, April 16, reportedly said that he would not contest for a third term even if the constitution permitted him.
He also dedicated his victory to the people of Rivers state who he said overwhelmingly voted for him.
