- Kylian Mbappe insists he is ready to retire rather than choose the best player in the world between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
- The Frenchman is viewed as a future Ballon d’Or winner by many but insists Messi and Ronaldo are miles ahead of him
- Messi and Ronaldo have continued to thrill lovers of the game worldwide with each winning the Ballon d’Or five times
Kylian Mbappe has hinted he would quit playing football in order to accommodate Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in his team because he can’t separate the pair.
According to talksport.com, Mbappe insists he would rather retire than make a choice between Messi and Ronaldo to join his team, as it is not easy separating the pair.
Barcelona playmaker Messi was on top of his game as he netted twice in their 3-0 win at home to Man United to seal passage to the Champions League semi-finals.
On the other hand, Ronaldo’s Juventus’ could not reach the last four rounds, after they were sent packing by Ajax with a 2-1 defeat at home with the Portuguese netting a first-half opener.
Despite falling out of Europe’s premier club competition, Ronaldo, who moved from Real Madrid to Juve last summer has scored 26 times in 38 matches across all competitions.
But Messi, who presently has 45 goals in 42 games for Barca, has been amazing this campaign.
At the last count, the pair of 31-year-old Messi and 34-year-old Ronaldo, have continued to thrill lovers of the game worldwide, winning the Ballon d’Or five times each.
However, with age catching up on the pair, 20-year-old Mbappe, who won last summer World Cup with France is already being touted as the next Ballon d’Or star.
Reacting on his preferred choice out of the two superstars, Mbappe stressed that he would rather take retire and watch Messi and Ronaldo in a fantasy XI.
“If I had the choice between Messi and Ronaldo for my team? I’d retire and take both of them, to be sure that we win!
“I could choose one, but it would likely be at the expense of the other. And you don’t have the right to denigrate one of these two monsters. To choose one would be an insult to everything that the other has achieved.
“When I was younger, I had fun comparing them both. From one year to the next, I changed [who he preferred], even though I admit to having defended Ronaldo more often.
“But now I’m grown up I’m less certain. There are the Barca followers who prefer [Johan] Cruyff and Messi. And there are others who will say that Ronaldo is the greatest athlete that football has known and has won things wherever he went,” the PSG forward Mbappe was quoted as saying by France Football.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal was not enough as Juventus suffered a 1-2 home defeat against Ajax on Tuesday, April 16, in the reverse fixture of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
The encounter at Allianz Stadium saw Ajax come from behind to beat Juventus on the night and progress to the semifinals on a 3-2 aggregate win.
Ajax made an early substitution, with Daley Sinkgraven replacing Nossair Mazraoui in the 6th minute after the later suffered a knock.
