- There are indications that Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje is the choice of most northers in the National Assembly as the next Senate president
- This is as the North East Consultative Forum (NECF) on Wednesday, April 17, endorsed Goje for the position
- The move of the NECF was also supported by not less than five northern groups
The North East Consultative Forum (NECF) and five other groups in the geopolitical region have thrown their weight behind Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje to become the next Senate president.
The five groups supporting NECF for Goje's proposed emergence as president of the 9th National Assembly are North East Elders Mobilisation Forum, APC National Youth Caucus, Borno Discussion Circle, Gombe Political Associations and North East Youth Awareness for Good Governance, Daily Trust reports.
The move came after a meeting by the groups and the forum in Bauchi on Wednesday, April 17. The group said that their choice was because Goje, according to them, is the best of the three contenders for the office.
In line with this, the group on Wednesday, April 17, wrote a letter to Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The letter read: “Following very wide consultations among stakeholders, party members and North East Consultative Forum and after careful assessment of his contribution to the party and Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, we hereby present to you, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje as the choice of the people of the North East for the Senate President of the 9th Assembly,” they said in the letter.
“Senator Goje is eminently respected among members of the National Assembly and the country for his immense contribution to the success of the APC in 2015 and 2019 general elections.
“The landslide victory of the APC in Gombe state in the just concluded general elections is a sure testimony of is gallantry loyalty and commitment to APC.

“It will serve the best interest of the party if Your Excellency and the party review your stance on the choice of Sen. Ahmad Lawan and allow for a level-playing field for all aspiring candidates from the North East zone to showcase themselves to their colleagues.
“We therefore urge Sen Danjuma Goje to come forward and declare his interest to vie for the position of the President of the Senate in the ninth Assembly.”
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) had rejected the choice of Senator Ahmed Lawan as Senate president, saying it would turn the Senate into a mere rubber-stamp of a certain Southwest politician.
The group, in a media release obtained by Legit.ng and signed by its national president, Yerima Shettima on Thursday, April 18, said it would be shameful for the north to "sit back and a watch a single southwest politician deciding for the northeast in particular and the north in general.
