Cristiano Ronaldo's dreams of winning his sixth UEFA Champions League failed to materialise after Juventus were dumped out of the competition by Ajax earlier this week.

The 34-year-old remains the most successful player in the history of the competition so far - with five UCL titles and 126 goals in all appearances in the tournament.

However, he was left devastated when the Old Lady were stunned by a young Dutch League side at the Allainz Stadium on Tuesday, April 16.

Ronaldo fired Juventus ahead in the 45th minute of the meeting but two second half goals from Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt turned his goal to a mere consolation at the end of the meeting.

The former Manchester United star, who stormed into the dressing room after the blast of the final whistle was said to have told his mother he cannot 'perform miracles at' Juve.

Daily Star reported that Ronaldo was aiming for another fourth straight final after leading Real Madrid to victory in the last three editions of the championship.

"He was sad, he wanted to go to the final,” said Maria Dolores Aveiro as quoted by Portuguese newspaper A Bola. "He will try for the next one. What did he say to me? 'Mum, I don't work miracles."

Juventus' only triumph in the European championship came in the 1995-96 season when they defeated Ajax on penalties after both sides played 1-1 during regulation period.

They have however lost to Spanish oppositions at the final in the last four years - Barcelona in 2015 and Real Madrid in 2017.

Allegri's men will now focus on winning the Italian League title as they have also been dumped out of Copa Italia earlier in the year by fellow Serie A side Atalanta.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's lone goal was not enough to save Juventus from crashing out of the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage.

Two second half goals from Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt saw the Dutch League side triumph over the Old Lady at the end of the match.

Ajax progressed to the semifinals 3-2 on aggregate after both sides played 1-1 in the reverse fixture last week.
