Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance when Barcelona thrashed his Manchester United 3-0 at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, April 16.
Two goals from Lionel Messi and one from Philippe Coutinho propelled the La Liga side to the semifinals having won the first leg at Old Trafford 1-0.
With coach Ernesto Valverde's men reaching the last four stage for the first time in over three season.
However, the 77-year-old, took time out to measure the Barca pitch in a bid to prove to his colleagues wrong.
Ferguson was quoted to have earlier told his friends that the Camp Nou stadium is bigger than other pitches across the world.
"Sir Alex was out on the pitch for quite some time,” Lineker said on BT Sport.
"In fact he was pacing the ground at one stage. I’ve got a little bit of inside information because I was at the lunch with the Barcelona and Manchester United people today.
"They were arguing over which pitch is bigger. Sir Alex said this place, here, the Camp Nou was bigger than Old Trafford.
"Whereas David Gill and one or two others said ‘No, they’re the same size’. And he’s paced it out.”
BT reporter Des Kelly, who was beside the pitch, confirmed Ferguson was measuring out the pitch.

Two first half goals from Lionel Messi and one in the second half from Philippe Coutinho handed the Catalans the victory after the two legged affair.
Meanwhile, the Bluagrana are still in contention to win treble this campaign as they are in the final of the Copa Del Rey, while they are nine points better than Atletico on the La Liga table.
