The governor-elect of Bauchi state, Bala Muhammed, has given approval to his lawyers to file a suit against the outgoing governor of the state, Mohammad Abubakar.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the suit is against the governor’s reported “recruitment into the civil service, reinstatement of District Heads and award of new contracts through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)" six weeks to the end of his administration.
The governor-elect gave this approval when he hosted a group of lawyers under the aegis of Body of Bauchi Lawyers of Conscience (BOBALAC).
Muhammed disclosed that the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has engaged the services of five Senior Advocate of Nigeria, 10 other senior lawyers and 50 indigenous lawyers from state to challenge the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to challenge their victory.
He said: “The issue of APC taking me and my party to the Tribunal is a normal thing, that is why it is provided in the electoral act.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank my supporters and the people of Bauchi state for their show of patience. The petition is nothing to worry about because we have taken necessary measures. Though we have not been served with the processes, once we are served and we see the details, we are going to respond.
“We are also going to engage our lawyers, about five Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SANs), about ten other senior lawyers and 50 Bauchi indigenous lawyers. That is to say, the APC petition at the Tribunal is dead on arrival due to the support of the Body of Bauchi Lawyers of Conscience (BOBALAC).”
The governor-elect thanked BOBALAC and said his legal team has accepted their offer.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission said it was satisfied by the academic documents submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to contest for the 2019 presidential election.
Recall that President Buhari's school certificate was one of the major points raised by the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in his petition filed at the presidential election petitions tribunal.
