2023 presidency: North will not zone presidency to southwest - Ex-minister alleges

- Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former minister of transport and PDP BoT member, claimed the north will not allow APC to zone presidency to southwest in 2023

- Babatope said the southwest APC leaders are merely deceiving themselves if they believe the north will let go easily

- There are speculations that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are being tipped to succeed President Buhari in 2023

Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former minister of transport, has claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will still field another northerner in the 2013 presidential election which is four years away.

Daily Independent reports that Babatope said on Sunday, April 14, the south-west zone of APC would be fooling itself if it believed the party’s national leadership would zone the presidency to the region in 2023.

He said the north would find it difficult to relinquish power after the end of the Muhammadu Buhari presidency in 2023.

Babatope, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Board of Trustees (BoT), said the northern region would not agree to rotation of the presidency when President Buhari completes his tenure in 2023

He said: “Whatever happens inside the APC is their headache. Some of our brothers in the southwest have been deceiving themselves that somebody from the southwest will be nominated by their party for the 2023 presidential election.

“But they are merely deceiving themselves because the north will not let go easily and, as such, they will not allow the southwest to field a candidate”.

There are speculations that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are being tipped to succeed President Buhari in 2023.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Senator Shehu Sani claimed that some people are being sponsored to attack the image of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Hausa Radio in Kaduna and other northern states.

In a tweet on his page on Monday, April 15, the Kaduna lawmaker said attack on Tinubu’s image was being done in Hausa language.

Sani said this attack could not have come from the opposition hinting that this was being carried out by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He wrote: “Some people are strategically being sponsored to attack and maligned the Asiwaju in Hausa language in Hausa Radio in Kaduna and environs. This certainly couldn’t have come from the opposition knowing the background of the kind of people being used. Some wars begin with a sniper.”
