- Gernot Rohr has confirmed that the Super Eagles will play Ghana and Senegal in friendly games before 2019 African Cup of Nations tourney in June
- Nigeria are grouped with Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar in Group B for the tournament
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has confirmed that Nigeria will face Ghana and Senegal in friendly matches as part of their preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The three time African champions have been drawn in Group B alongside Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi for this summer's 24-team AFCON tournament
Rohr told Super Sport during an interview in Cairo on Friday night after the draws were concluded in Cairo.
The German born tactician also insisted that his players must finish the season well at their various clubs and also avoid injuries before the tourney.
"First the (Nigeria) players have to finish the season well and to be careful not to have injuries. And also to recover very well after a long season because it's not easy to play this AFCON in the summer with the hot weather.
"We are confident but it will not be easy. All the teams are strong. Burundi had the second highest goal scorer in the qualifiers behind Odion Ighalo.
"But we can be confident because we'll have good preparations and friendlies, one normally against Ghana in Nigeria and the second one I think against Senegal here in Egypt," Rohr noted.
Rohr qualified Nigeria for the 2019 AFCON as Group E leaders with 13 points after six qualifying matches.
The last time the Super Eagles featured in the competition was in 2013 when they conquered Africa for the third time in South Africa.
Meanwhile, the first ever summer AFCON championship with 24 teams will hold in six venues between June 21 and July 19.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations championship in Egypt this summer.
The Super Eagles who won the 2013 edition in South Africa are returning to the continental competition for the first time since then, having missed the last two editions.
They will be facing tournament debutants Madagascar and Burundi in the group games as they hope to go all the way and win the country's fourth AFCON title this year.
