Troops kill 23 bandits in Zamfara, rescue 40

Twenty three bandits have been killed and 18 suspected bandit informants, cattle rustlers, kidnappers and logistics and suppliers to armed criminals in Zamfara state arrested by the troops conducting Operation Sharan Daji.

The disclosure was made in a statement by the acting Force information officer, Operation Sharan Daji, Major Clement Abiade, Daily Trust reports.

Lgit.ng gathers that Abiade said the air component of Operation Sharan Daji carried out several air strikes around Kagara, Gando, Fankama, Fete and Dumburum forests.

Part of those arrested was one Muhammed Iso, a notorious kidnapper who was intercepted in Niger Republic through collaboration with the security forces in the country.

He said: “The bandit hails from Naagwalam in Katsina State and confessed to being a member of a five-man syndicate responsible for kidnapping and highway robbery in Batsari and Jibiya axis. It is instructive to state that the suspects arrested have been handed over to Nigerian Police and other agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“These forests provide sanctuaries and hideouts where kidnapped victims are often hidden. Please note that air strikes are precision activities designed to avoid collateral damage.

“It is significant to mention that subsequent operations in the forests led to the rescue of 40 abducted persons. They include men, women and children from communities in Zamfara State."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that nine suspected armed bandits have been killed by troops of Operation Sharan Daji in Zamfara state, while two kidnap victims have been rescued.

The incident was confirmed on Monday, February 4, by the acting Force information officer of Operation Sharan Daji, Major Clement Abiade.

The bandits met their deaths during a clearance operation at Sunke forest in Shinkafi and Birnin Magaji local government area of the state.
