The 30-year-old was said to have accused the Frenchman of not taking the training exercise serious.

Both stars however exchanged blows moments after the argument heated up on the training ground according to the Mirror.

The publication reports that Coman threw the first punch, but the former Borussia Dortmund star responded by landing a strike of his own on the 22-year-old.

Jerome Boating and Niklas Sule were said to have separated the fight before it got bloody as Bild reported that a number of other teammates had to subsequently intervene.

Meanwhile, the manager Niko Kovac didn't punish either of the players for disturbing the peace of his training session.

Instead, he allowed them to finish the session with their teammates at Sabener Strasse ahead of their Bundesliga clash with Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Reports from the club claims it is not the first time Lewandowski has been involved in a training ground argument with teammates over the last 18 months.

He and Mats Hummels were involved in a bust-up in February despite their years of playing together at different clubs, with the German defender heavily critical of the No.9's attitude.

And the issue led to club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge saying that the club "won't tolerate any nonsense" in future.
