But while Messi was being attended to, United fans were heard screaming ‘Viva Ronaldo’, in a bid to mock the Barca star.

Reacting after the match, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde told Marca that Messi, could not get back his groove after the injury

"Messi wasn't so comfortable after the blow. We have to examine him tomorrow to see how he is. He was strong, but he has quite a significant bruise,” he said, even as he was quick to add.

"When you see the atmosphere here and the team they have and it being the Champions League, it's hard to win here. It was a difficult game and complicated at times, but we had the clearest chances,” Valverde summed up.

Both team will square up in the reverse on April 16 at the Nou Camp.
