A Nigerian human rights advocate has exposed a family after they allegedly married their 14-year-old daughter to a 50-year-old man. The activist identified as Gwamnishu Harrison also claimed that the girl is mentally ill.

The young man recounted how he received a complaint from someone in Benue state, that a teenager had been married off to a 50-year-old Benue-based prophet.

Harrison explained that he received the tip about the 14-year-old girl named Nonye two weeks ago. He also alleged that Nonye had become mentally unstable after she was married off to the prophet by her parents.

Legit.ng had come across the sad story on Harrison's Instagram page. The post also revealed photos of the prophet and his child bride, which looked like they were taken from someone's window.

The advocate expressed that he would need the support of government officials in Delta state and that of people of Benue state to retrieve the girl and give her the proper care she needs.

In a chat with Legit.ng, Harrison also revealed that he is working with the ministry of justice in Delta state since they have the child right department under it.

Harrison also said that they will be going to Benue next week with security operatives to take the girl away from the man.

He told Legit.ng that the girl was accused of being a witch and the prophet promised to deliver her. The prophet told her parents that he will cure her of witchcraft that was why they initially gave her to him. He later came to pay a small dowry on her which they did in a coded way.

It was also revealed to Legit.ng that the man locks the girl inside the house anytime he is going out, only let her come out when he is around. He said a neighbour who had been observing the strange movement that interviewed the girl and called Harrison to come and rescue the girl

Harrison also noted that the girl will be handed over to the appropriate government agency when rescued.

In another child marriage story, Legit.ng had reported that a Facebook user, Chibuzor Ikeh, on Tuesday, January 29, shared several pictures and videos of the 56-year-old man who got married to the 16-year-old girl in Anambra state. She added that the man is very rich while the family of the little girl is poor.
