Akinwunmi Ambode who is the outgoing governor of Lagos state will be honored in a farewell football match by football legends George Weah and Didier Drogba.
According to the organizing committee of the match, Akinwunmi Ambode who has been the governor of Lagos almost four years now will be honored on May 18 in what will be an high profile game.
George Weah is currently the President of Liberian and remains the only African to have been crowned world best footballer.
Drogba on the other hand was known for his superb goal scoring sense while playing for Premier League side Chelsea and he was also crowned African Best footballer.
''Governor Ambode has served Lagos meritoriously for four years, so the match will be played at the newly remodeled Onikan Stadium on May 18, which is 11 days to his final handover on May 29.
''Aside from George Weah and Drogba, other African legends have signed up for the game between African Legends and Ex- Super Eagles’ stars.
“Others who will play on the side of the African legends are Michael Essien and Samuel Eto’O Fills,'' chairman of the organizing committee Waheed Akanni said in a statement on Wednesday, April 10, according to Sportinglife.
Waheed Akanni also stated that there would be a football clinic at the Campos Square for the event to have trappings of youth football development.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how George Weah, Liberia President, launched a housing program for rural dwellers known as the Sasstown development project targeted toward a better living environment.
The former World best footballer took to his official social media page to make the announcement on Sunday, March 3.
President Weah revealed he was excited with the project expected to improve living condition of Liberians, who will be encouraged to go into agriculture after the residential buildings are ready.
