- Antonio Conte emerges top target for Italian League side Inter Milan this summer
- The 49-year-old tactician has been without a job since he parted ways with Chelsea last summer
- Conte says he will only consider taking the job if they agree to pay him £9m after tax
Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly informed Inter Milan to make him the highest paid manager before signing a deal with them.
The Italian born tactician has been without a job since he parted ways with his former Premier League side last summer.
Conte won Premier League and FA Cup titles during his two year reign at Stamford Bridge before making way for countryman Maurizio Sarri.
The former Italy national team coach has however told the Serie A side he wants to earn £9 million, emerging as favourite to replace Luciano Spalletti ahead of Jose Mourinho.
SunSport reports that the money will see him earn £2.5 million a year more than Juventus’ coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The publication also claims that a whooping after-tax salary of £9m a year would still see Conte trailing some of world football’s top managerial earners.
With Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone topping the highest paid coaches in the world last year, when total earnings and not just wages from his club are taken into account.
Jose Mourinho raked in an eye-watering £26.6m in 2018 following his sacking and pay-out from Manchester United.
Hiring Conte would cost Inter president Steven Zhang and general manager Beppe Marotta even more though.
Meanwhile, it will cost Inter Milan chiefs about £21.5 million in compensation if they fire Spalletti.
His deal runs to 2021 but, with Inter 21 points behind leaders Juve and without a league title since 2010, Zhang is understood to be determined to land Conte at all costs.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Antonio Conte has been heavily linked with Inter Milan job should the Serie A side decide to sack their current boss Luciano Spalletti.
Since he was axed at Chelsea, Antonio Conte has been out of work as he was also interested in replacing Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Current Inter Milan gaffer Luciano Spalletti has been under serious pressure this season at the club after their defeat in the Coppa Italia to Lazio on penalties.
