A Nigerian artist identified as Matada Okafor has gotten recognition at a school in the United States for one of his works. The artist had painted a portrait of opera singer Leontyne Price.
The Nigerian artist painted a portrait of Price which was unveiled and dedicated at Oak Park Elementary School in the Laurel School District, on Friday, April 5.
It was gathered that the event was attended by the singer's brother who represented her and received the dedication. The Grammy winner's brother, George B. Price, revealed that the singer was a student at the school.
Okafor, who was also at the dedication, expressed his thanks for receiving the honour to paint the opera legend.
He said: “I want to say thank you for giving me the privilege to paint a legend and great visionary.”

Price's brother in his speech, expressed that the singer has always represent her hometown and Oak Park Elementary School. He stated that she also loved the opportunities the community provided her with.
He said: “I come to represent my sister. She loves her hometown, the people in it and the opportunities it afforded her. She has represented Oak Park and Laurel, her state and her country with dignity, pride and class, which was learned here in Laurel at Oak Park.”
