Borno community reportedly evacuated by military over security threats

Emerging report has claimed that the entire Jakana community in Konduga local government area of Borno state has been evacuated by the Nigerian military.

Members of the community were said to have been moved to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, Daily Trust reports. gathers that the military was quoted as saying that the action was taken for security reasons.

According to residents, the insurgents attacked Polo Jidari area in Jere local government of the Borno state capital at about 5am.

The insurgents opened fire on the community before a suicide bomber exploded his explosive vest and ended up killing 8 people and injuring others.

Two residents said that even members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) that protected the community were victims in the attack.

The bodies of the victims were said to have been taken by the State Emergency Management Agency to the State Specialist Hospital for immediate attention.

In another previous report by, Boko Haram insurgents on Monday, February 18 killed 18 processors and merchants of firewood and charcoal in Borno state.

Some of the victims were reportedly beheaded, while others were gunned down.

The attackers were said to have ambushed their victims who were sourcing the firewood and processing the charcoal in a bush at Koshebe village of the local government that extended into Maiduguri metropolis.

The source said: “There was an attack and ambush on firewood sellers who had gone to the bush to fetch their products by suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists in Koshebe general area of Jere local government area of Borno state.

“18 dead bodies were seen at the scene of the attacks, but as it is, only 10 dead bodies were recovered and evacuated so far by our security forces in conjunction with members of Civilian JTF.

“The remaining eight dead bodies were yet to be evacuated due to inaccessibility of the area."
