Some youths are demanding for the position of speaker of the House of Representatives be zoned to the north-central region of the country.
The youths who held separate peaceful protests in Plateau, Niger, and Nasarawa states on Monday, April 8, to press their demand, said the north-central deserved the slot having played a crucial role in the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and the performance of the party in the 2019 general elections, Channels TV reports.
In Plateau, the youths under the auspices of North-Central Concerned Youths held a peaceful protest at the office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jos, noting that it would amount to equity and justice if the speakership position is zoned to the region.
In similar protests held in Minna, the Niger state capital and Nasarawa state, youths also embarked on peaceful protests urging the APC to allow north-central region the opportunity to lead the House of Representatives.
In another report, the Sustainable Democracy Agenda (SUDA), a political group, says the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of president of the 9th Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan enjoys the support of majority of voters in the country.
The convener of SUDA, Ibrahim Usman, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, April 8, in Abuja, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Usman said a simple survey conducted by the group all over the country, showed that Lawan got the support of the majority of Nigerians to occupy the exalted seat.
