Nigeria's Super Falcons on Monday afternoon, April 8, continued with their preparations for the 2019 World Cup by losing against Canada 2-1 in a friendly match played at the Pinatar Arena in Spain.

Super Falcons escaped conceding a goal in the 9th minute after Beckie failed to connect with Prince's powerful cross which would have given the Canadians the lead.

Falcons had a glorious chance to score in the 23rd minute through Rita Chikwelu, but her shot was saved by Canadian goalkeeper McLeod.

Guingamp striker Desire Oparanozie gave Nigeria the lead in the 26th minute after receiving an excellent pass from Uchenna Kanu as she dribbled a defender before scoring.

The Canadian ladies tried all they could to restore parity before the end of first half, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Canada changed their style of play in the second half, and it took them only three minutes to leveled up through Beckie Janine.

And five minutes later, Canada scored their second goal via a superb header by Schmidt as Nigeria goalie Oluehi failed to make a save.

In the 61st minute, Ngozi Ebere set up Uchenna Kanu, but her effort was easily saved by Canadian goalie McLedo.

The encounter eventually ended 2-1 in favor of Canada as Super Falcons bowed narrowly to the world no. 5 who are now unbeaten in six games.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Nigeria’s Courtney Dike netted a hat-trick as Super Falcons hammered Icelandic first division campaigners, UMF Selfoss, 6-1 in an international friendly on Friday, April 5, at Pinatar Arena in Spain.

The encounter saw the nine-time African champions’ fall behind after Reimus Magda scored the opening goal for UMF Selfoss in the 31st minute.
