- Maurizio Sarri wants Chelsea to make Mateo Kovacic's deal permanent
- The midfielder is currently on a season long loan deal at Stamford Bridge until the end of this season
- Kovacic has made 40 appearances for the Blues in all competitions this campaign but has no goal credited to him
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has expressed his desires to make Mateo Kovacic's contract permanent at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old joined the Blues on a season long loan deal from Real Madrid last summer, and has made 28 Premier League appearances this campaign.
With the Croatian's short spell set to expire at the end of this season, the Italian born tactician is planning to extend his stay at the London club.
Sarri made this known while speaking at the Cobham training complex that: "Yes, Kovacic is only on loan, of course. I'd like very much that Kovacic will stay with us.
"You know very well that, in that position, we have some problems because we have only Jorginho.
"In my opinion, Kovacic could become a very good central midfielder. Of course, he is not a defensive midfielder but, as you know, in that position I prefer a very technical player.
"For us, it's very important for us to have big quality in that position. Big quality not for the last pass, but big quality in terms of moving the ball."
Meanwhile, Chelsea still have to battle with their FIFA two transfer window ban in a bid to secure the player's services on a permanent basis.
Kovacic has fired blank in all 40 appearances he has made for the Blues this term, while assisting just two goals in the process.
He is expected to be in his side's line up when they battle West Ham United in Monday's Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge as they continue their fight for the top four finish.
Recent wins over Brighton and Cardiff have left them level on points with Arsenal , who currently occupy fourth place, and they know a win this evening would propel them to third in the table.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea have not being interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic on a permanent basis.
The 24-year-old is currently on a season long loan deal at Stamford Bridge after failing to seal regular playing time under former Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane.
