- Diego Costa in trouble for the incident that occurred during Atletico's 2-0 loss to Barca
- The former Chelsea striker was alleged to have insulted the referee's mum during the tie
- Costa was sent off for dissent in the 27th minute which reduced his team to ten men
Diego Costa could sit out the rest of the season for saying terrible things about referee Jesus Gil Manzano's mother during Atletico Madrid's loss to Barcelona.
The Spanish striker reacted rudely after Manzano ignored to award him a free kick when he was tackled by Barca's Arthur Melo.
Costa's action earned him a red card for dissent in the 27th minute and Diego Simone's men finished the match with ten-men.
In an official reported filed by Manzano after the match, the ex-Chelsea star shouted twice: "I s** on your wh*re mother", according to Reuters journalist Richard Martin.
It is understood Costa could be banned for up to eight games if La Liga authorities take action on the referee's report.
And with seven games left to play in the rest of the campaign, Atletico will be without their striker until the end of the season.

"In the last 11 games, I think there have been seven red cards and not all of them have been fair."
