Nigeria’s Courtney Dike netted a hat-trick as Super Falcons hammered Icelandic first division campaigners, UMF Selfoss, 6-1 in an international friendly on Friday, April 5, at Pinatar Arena in Spain.
The encounter saw the nine-time African champions’ fall behind after Reimus Magda scored the opening goal for UMF Selfoss in the 31st minute.
Despite creating scoring moments in the first half, the Falcons managed to get back on level terms in the 42nd minute, with Uchenna Kanu netting the goal that ensured scores stood at 1-1 going into the break.
In the second stanza, the Falcons improved on their game with Courtney Dike scoring after 57 minutes of the clash, to put Nigeria in the lead.
Two quick goals from Ini Umotong in the 62' and 69' saw Nigeria race to a 4-1 lead after 70 minutes of football.
But Dike still had time to complete her hat-trick after adding two more goals in the 72’ and 76’ to see the scores at Nigeria 6-1 UMF Selfoss.
Both sides failed to net more goals in the remaining 14 minutes of the match as the scoreboard read Nigeria 6-1 UMF Selfoss at the blast of the final whistle.
