- Lionel Messi is now on the verge of getting another contract at Barcelona
- His current deal will expire in 2021 and the club wants him to sign a new contract
- Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said he does not want Messi to play for another team
Spanish champions Barcelona have confirmed their readiness to offer Argentine football star Lionel Messi another contract that will make him remain at Nou Camp until he retires.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu made this known as he added that he does not want the star player to play for any other club in his career.
In November 2017, Lionel Messi signed another four-year deal at the Camp Nou, but Josep Bartomeu says the Catalan giants want him to extend his deal.
Lionel Messi has scored 42 goals in 39 games this season and Bartomeu wants him to be forever linked with Barcelona.
"We would like to renew his contract, that's the idea. He is young - you can see that and he still has two years on his deal.
"He's always improving, always innovating. I believe he still has many years in front of him and in the coming months we will sit down with him that he has many more years at Barcelona,'' he told ESPN.
With eight games to end the ongoing Spanish La Liga season, Barcelona are currently topping the standings with 70 points after 30 games.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Barcelona star Lionel Messi broke yet another record in top five European Leagues after scoring one of his side's goals against Villarreal on Tuesday, April 2.
The 31-year-old came on in the 61st minute and scored a stunner from a free-kick in the 90th minute, before Luis Suarez finally rescued a point for the visitors through his 93rd minute long range shot.
His goal tally is now 42 goals this campaign, with 14 assists after 38 matches in all competitions this campaign.
