Court strikes out suit challenging Ihedioha’s nomination as PDP candidate in Imo

A suit challenging the emergence of Imo state governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha, as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been dismissed by a Federal High Court in Owerri, the state capital.

The case was dismissed on Thursday, April 4, by the presiding judge, Justice Tijani Ringim, citing lack of proof, Channels reports.

Legit.ng recalls that the suit was filed by the lawmaker representing Imo East senatorial district, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

The lawmaker, who claimed that the governorship primary election in the state that produced the governor-elect was marred with over-voting and thuggery among other irregularities, asked the court to declare him as the authentic winner of the primary election.

According to Justice Ringim, the plaintiff did not convince the court with cogent reasons on the demands he made before the court.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Rocha Okorocha said the governor-elect of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha, does not have the right to issue directives to financial Institutions over their dealings with the state government until May 29, 2019.

Okorocha in a statement on Friday, March 15, through Sam Onwuemeodo, his chief press secretary, described as unfortunate media reports that Ihedioha cautioned financial institutions against doing business with the state government.

The Imo state government alleged that Ihedioha’s interests in the treasury of the state was because the governor elect is planning on sharing the state’s money when he assumes office.

"We are also not surprise at his issuing the directive because as a PDP man, his interest, first and foremost, will be the treasury of the State, and the “policy” or the slogan of “share the money” will soon come back, but he should exercise patience and wait till he is sworn-in. He shouldn’t be in a hurry."
