Breaking: Court dismisses Maryam Sanda's no-case submission, frees mum, brother

- A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court in Maitama, Abuja has nullified the no-case submission presented by Maryam Sanda

- Also, the court has discharged her brother, Aliyu Sanda; her mother, Maimuna Aliyu who were facing similar trial

- They were standing trial alongside the key defendant who is to defend herself in court

Having dismissed the no-case submission put forward by Maryam Sanda on Wednesday, April 3, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu fixed Thursday, April 4, for the hearing and verdict of the widow's murder allegation.

Sanda's brother, Aliyu Sanda and her mother, Maimuna Aliyu have been discharged by the court ruling on Thursday, April 4.

Delivering the court's decision, Justice Halilu said: “The submission of no-case to answer by Maryam Sanda, the first defendant, is overruled. I call on the first defendant to enter her defence.

“The no-case submission of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants is hereby upheld and they are hereby discharged and acquitted."

The key defendant had told the court that the prosecution had not made a prima facie case against her to warrant her to defend herself, asking to be discharged and acquitted of the allegation.

Moreover, the defendants' lawyer, Hussein Musa, prayed the court to discharge and acquit the them since, according to him, the prosecution lacks sufficient evidence to the contrary.

In contrast to this, Fidelis Ogbobe, the prosecution counsel, urged the court to dismiss Sanda's no-case submission plea, adding that there are evidences to warrant the defendants to enter defence in the case.

Meanwhile, report that an FCT High Court was on Wednesday, March 27, told by Sanda that she had no case to answer.

The deceased is also the nephew of Alhaji Bello Halliru Muhammad, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). ( -> Same great journalism, upgraded for better service!
