In order to avert impeachment proceedings against the outgoing governor of Adamawa, Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, and the speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, the mace of the Assembly was hurriedly smuggled out of the Assembly’s complex on Tuesday, April 3.
According to The Independent, after about a month’s recess, the Assembly reconvened on Tuesday to consider the executive letter from the governor, that he was proceeding on two weeks leave.
Legit.ng gathers that the proceeding, however, turned sour when several members questioned the proprietary of Bindow going on leave at such a crucial period.
They said the governor ought to stay in office to explain so many crucial issues and decisions that he took in the last four years.
The lawmakers also accused Bindow of trying to abscond from office because of some malfeasance; leading to raised tension in the Assembly.
The situation reportedly degenerated when the speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, was accused by the member representing Hong, Hassan Barguma, of over-protecting the governor.
Barguma requested that the speaker step in order to allow appropriate action to be taken on the governor.
Mijinyawa, however, quickly exited the chamber with the mace, with the assistance of the sergeant-at-arms.

Legit.ng previously reported that the outgoing governor of Adamawa state, Jibrilla Bindow, conceded defeat and congratulated Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the winner of the state’s governorship supplementary election which held on Thursday, March 28.
Bindow congratulated the governor-elect and further wished him a successful term of office in a state broadcast on Friday, March 29.
