Arewa Youth Council backs Lawan for Senate presidency

- The Arewa Youth Council (AYC) has thrown its weight behind Senator Ahmed Lawan to become the next Senate president

- The council said the senator would ensure stability and the smooth relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government

- The AYC added that any contrary outcome would set a bad precedence that could mar the future of the APC at the National Assembly

The Arewa Youth Council (AYC) has thrown its weight behind the choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Senate presidency in the ninth National Assembly, Senator Ahmed Lawan.

The development was made public by the council’s chairman, Comrade Muktar Muhammad, Leadership reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Muhammad said the council endorsed Lawan due to his wealth of experience.

He said the senator would ensure stability and the smooth relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government which is needed for the successful and effective implementation of good and progressive policies of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He said Lawan, being a doctorate degree holder from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, possessed the needed knowledge, skills and intellect to steer the next Senate effectively.

The council insisted that anything short of Lawan as Senate president on June 11, 2019 would amount to lack of reward for loyalty by the APC, as the senator has been consistent with his party’s leadership at the center.

Muhammad added that any contrary outcome would “set a bad precedence that could mar the future of our party at the National Assembly.”

He said: “We want to affirm that any contrary position to that of our party leadership on this is an opposition and affront to President Buhari.

"We must therefore, avoid the repeat of the events that produced Saraki as Senate president in 2015 , by ensuring that all members of APC at the Senate tow the line of the party by voting Ahmed Lawan as Senate president.”
