The foster father of Kolade Johnson, the young man killed by some trigger-happy SARS officers, has opened up on the way the event has affected him and his family. The bereaved man who revealed that the deceased has been with him since he was a child spoke to correspondents of Legit.ng when their home was visited.
The death of the young man who was said to be watching a football game in his neighbourhood at Mangoro sparked an outrage as Nigerians found it ridiculous and unfair. Several Nigerians took to their social media pages to condemn the killing and to plead with the government for justice to take its course in this case.
The father revealed that the last conversation he had with the deceased was when he was disciplining his daughter, Johnson’s younger sister. He said that this prompted him to call Johnson to implore him to talk to her as he has little or no tolerance for nonsense.

Alhaji Remi Lukman was deeply shaken by the sad event while speaking to Legit.ng. According to him, the deceased graduated from the university and left for South Africa. He did not return until two years ago when the xenophobic attack was on the rise.
He revealed that Johnson left the house for an eatery where he went to watch a football match. He exchanged greetings with a young boy who lives around his home as he saw him walking his girlfriend to the bus stop. Not quite long after that, the young lady was said to have ran back shouting ‘kidnappers’. This according to Alhaji Lukman prompted the guys watching the football game to step out.
The boyfriend of the girl was seen being dragged by three men in mufti. They moved him into their parked van as the crowd watched them at a distance. One of the men in mufti had a black vest with the inscription ‘anti-cultism’ on. He was said to have stepped forward with his gun shouting ‘I am going to kill someone today’. He fired a shot into the air and fired two more shots towards the crowd.
The father of the deceased said his son was hit in the lower abdomen and upper thigh. His organs were exposed and he hit the ground almost immediately. The officers were neither attacked nor confronted yet, they inflicted pain on the family of the deceased.

Johnson’s father said he has requested for the arrested officers to be tried; he also wants the public to be made aware of everything that will be done to them. He said he believes in the system and has no cause to doubt the commissioner’s words.
Johnson was described as a promising son whose future was cut short; despite having lived a quiet life, he found time to connect with his friends. He had a daughter who is said to be a citizen of South Africa. The deceased had hopes that he was going to be fine in Nigeria since the music industry here is booming and he could be a part of it.
Legit.ng also asked the poor man how his wife, the mother of the deceased was faring. He said that she feels completely lost and dejected. He said that he had to get some doctors to attend to her in order to monitor her blood pressure and keep her stabilized. He considers her reaction normal having lost a child. However, they have been doing all they can to make her feel better.
