German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulates President Buhari on re-election

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called President Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him on his resounding victory in the Feb. 23 presidential election.

A statement by Femi Adesina, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, in Abuja on Tuesday, April 2, said Merkel pledged to continue cooperation with Nigeria on peace and security.

Merkel also pledged to promote investment and trade between Germany and Nigeria for sustainable economic development.

The statement quoted Buhari as thanking the German chancellor for her spirited efforts in combating irregular migration on the continent, lauding the policy of assisting immigrants in need.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the representative of Lagos mainland constituency 2 at the Lagos state House of Assembly, Moshood Oshun, appealed to opponents of President Muhammadu Buhari in the recent election to see how they can support the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next four years.

Oshun, who chairs the public accounts (state) committee of the House, said this in reaction to President Buhari’s victory at the polls as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) very early on Wednesday, February 27.
