Mick Schumacher, son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, stepped into the cockpit of a Ferrari F1 car and drove his first test laps at the in-season test in Bahrain on Tuesday, April 2.
The 50-year-old remains the most successful grand prix driver in history and became a household name after winning five titles with Ferrari.
According to BBC, Mick posted a best lap of 1:32:552 placing him eighth in the standings.
The legendary F1 driver has not been seen in public since he was involved in a terrible accident, while skiing with Mick in 2013, which left the former F1 Champion with severe brain damage
The 20-year-old was only 14 when his father suffered the life changing accident and one can only imagine what emotional torment the young Mick endured.
Mick was asked a couple of questions regarding his father while holding his first conference at a grand prix and he calmly answered them with a great deal of composure.
When asked about all the extra attention he received through being Michael's son, he said it was part of him and that he looked up to his father as a role model in F1.
"It is a difficult question," Mick said. "It is part of me. I am the son of my dad and I am happy that I am. What he has done is the best ever in F1. It is something I look up to and I am happy to have him as my dad," he said.
Michael's former manager and Mick's mother Sabine Kehm is now Mick's manager and is guiding the young ambitious driver along the way.
Ross Brawn, Michael Schumacher's close friend and former engineer, is impressed at Mick's progress so far and says he sees Michael in the 20-year-old.
"It's very exciting. So many times I see Mick and I see Michael in him very strongly," he said.
Schumacher is the reigning F3 Champion and according to Skysports (UK), he was the only driver making his debut on Tuesday with other teams running regular race drivers.
He will switch to the Alfa Romeo on Wednesday, April 3, while Ferrari driver Sebastien Vettel, who believes Mick has what it takes, will take over the SF90.
"The name brings some expectations but to end up in F1 you need to prove you have the speed. So far he has done really well. the way he has developed these last years, he deserves it," Vettel said.
