Breaking: Senate to pass N8.8trn 2019 budget on Tuesday April 16

- The Senate has said that it will pass the 2019 national budget proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, April 16

- The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, said that all committees yet to submit their reports on the budget should do so soon

- One of the committees that has not come up with its report is the appropriation committee headed by Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje

The Senate on Tuesday, April 2, said that all preparations to pass the N8.83 trillion 2019 budget proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari in December, 2018 are to be concluded soonest.

Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, revealed that the passing of the said budget will be done on Tuesday, April 16, Daily Trust reports.

Saraki also said all committees that have not submitted their budget defence reports to the appropriation committee should do so soon including the appropriation committee headed by Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje.

The chamber adjourned its plenary to Tuesday, April 9, in order to give all committees time to round up its work on the budget.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Senate committee on trade and investment had rejected the ministry’s 2019 Budget of N15.63 billion.

The rejection followed alleged discovery of an illegal Special Economic Zone Company, listed for appropriation when the Minister of Trade and Investment Okechukwu Enelamah appeared for budget defence on Monday, April 1.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Sabo Mohammed, while referring to item two on page seven of the budget booklet presented by the ministry, said the company was not known to be one of the 17 agencies under the ministry.
