A woman in the United States has given birth to her granddaughter after carrying the baby for her gay son and his husband.
32-year-old Matthew Eledge and 29-year-old Elliot Dougherty welcomed daughter, Uma Louise Dougherty-Eledge, after the former's mother, Cecile Eledge, acted as a surrogate.
In a report by CNN, the baby was conceived via vitro fertilisation with Mathew donating his seed and his husband's sister Lea Yribe donating the egg.
"When you are gay and married and want to have a kid, you go into it with knowledge that you are going to have to create a family in a special way," said Matthew in an interview with CNN.
The 61-year-old granny delivered Uma Louise in Omaha, Nebraska, a week ago weighing 2.6 kilograms.
According to Mathew who is a teacher, they had tried several options to get a child but the available ones seemed very expensive for them and they had no idea who to turn to for help.

"I had a lot of people in college say they would (carry and deliver a child), but when push comes to shove, that's a huge commitment," said Matthew.
"More than anything, we feel lucky to have women selfless enough to do this," he said.
The couple said they were very grateful to have supportive family members who came forward to help them out when they needed help.
"What an honor it is to have these two women in our life," Dougherty wrote on Facebook. "Life is a dream," he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported a similar story of a mother who delivered a baby for her daughter. The 55-year-old woman gave birth to her own grandchild because her daughter does not have a womb.
