Buhari congratulates ex-chief of general staff Diya at 75

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, April 2, congratulated former Chief of General Staff (CGS), Lt Gen Oladipo Diya, who would be clocking 75 on Wednesday, April 3.

Buhari described Diya, who was the number two man in the military after late head of state, Sani Abacha, as gallant and full of wisdom.

According to the president, Diya’s effort in the military was felt in the area of tackling security challenges in the country and part of the west coast.

In a statement by Femi Adesina, his spokesperson, President Buhari said he “warmly greets former Ogun state governor and Chief of General Staff (CGS), Lt Gen Oladipo Diya, on his 75th birthday, April 3rd, 2019, highlighting his many years of meritorious service to the nation.

“President Buhari felicitates with family members, friends, professional colleagues and associates of the former number two man, whose military career saw him successfully handling sensitive and strategic leadership positions as General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Commandant, National War College (1991-1993) and Chief of Defence Staff.

“The president affirms that General Diya’s gallantry, rich intellectual background and penchant for research contributed to the structure and operations of the Nigerian Army, especially in tackling security challenges within the country, and the west coast region.

“As the former CGS turns 75, President Buhari believes the nation has benefitted from his wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience, urging him to stay relevant by providing counsels to military formations and officers.

“The president prays that the almighty God will grant Gen. Diya longer life, good health and continue to bless his family.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari assured Nigerians that he will do everything within his power to ensure the best for the country and her citizens when he begins his second term in office on May 29, 2019.

The disclosure was made on Monday, April 1, by the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

Adesina said President Buhari received Board of Trustees and Advisory Council of Gidauniyar Jihar Katsina (Katsina State Development Fund) led by Justice Mamman Nasir at the State House.
