- The APC has set up a panel to investigate its loss of Anambra state during the 2019 presidential election
- The party said the figures from the state do not reflect its political standing there
- The APC said the panel will investigate the reasons behind the loss with a view to punishing members found culpable
- C.J. Chinwuba, Kingsley Ibe and Dr Peter Ogbuka have been appointed as president, VP and secretary of the panel respectively
A panel has been set up by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to investigate its loss of Anambra state during the presidential election which held on Saturday, February 23.
According to Sahara Reporters, the 13-man committee was inaugurated in Awka over the weekend by the acting state chairman of the party, Basil Ejidike.
Legit.ng gathers that the party said the figures from the state do not reflect its political standing in the state.
The APC had only managed to secure 33,298 votes in the state, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amassed 524,738 votes.
Ejidike said: “We are sure of our popularity in the state; we were surprised that our candidate lost the election in the state.
“That’s why we have to investigate the reasons behind this with a view to punishing our members found culpable in this loss.
"Political parties are formed for the sole purpose of winning elections, and if we cannot win election, then we are not in business.
“That is the reason we have set up this fact-finding committee that will probe into what happened before and during the last general election, which saw our party lying prostrate, without anything to show for its existence and participation in the election.”
C.J. Chinwuba was appointed as the committee’s chairman, Kingsley Ibe was appointed as its vice president and Dr Peter Ogbuka is the secretary.
