Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk picked up a minor injury during his side's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.
The 28-year-old was impressive for the Reds in the meeting, but his moment of the match was when he stopped Moussa Sissoko from scoring, adding to Spurs tally.
Roberto Firmino gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute but Lucas Moura close range tap in canceled the Brazilian's first half goal.
Meanwhile, the home team were handed the winner when Toby Alderweireld scored an own goal to help them get back to the summit of the log.
It was however a bitter-sweet celebration for the German tactician who revealed Van Dijk picked up an injury when defending for his side against Sissoko.
Klopp further said that though the Dutchman finished the game, he needed medical attention in the aftermath of the clash.
He said: "We have to see. I asked him and I think it was in the counter-attack situation when Sissoko hit him… I don’t know if he twisted it or it is a knock.
"He was walking to the interviews with a big ice pack. I hope it’s nothing serious but I don’t know yet."
Van Dijk has featured for Liverpool in all 32 Premier League outings this campaign - scoring three goals and creating one assist in the process.
However, his absence could dent his side's Premier League title hopes as they are in contention with defending champions, Manchester City.
The Dutchman became the first defender since 2013 to be awarded the EPL Player of the Month award this year, proving how an incredible season he is having.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Van Dijk was awarded the Premier League player of the month for December.
His boss Jurgen Klopp also won the manager's category of the prestigious prize for their contribution which led the Reds to victory all thorough the month.
