There is always a time when it will be appropriate to support the government because the government is heading in the right direction, and as legislators, we should support and monitor the activities of government for service delivery,” he said.

He also said that his past works are all well known to all and that he does not believe in a situation where they will be unnecessary fights everything.

He, however, said that ihe would reject anything that does not go with the national interest when he is the Senate president.

He said: "My antecedents are well known. We will checkmate excesses of the executive but I don’t believe in unnecessary fights. That does not mean that we would not reject anything that is against the national interest.

“But I want to see a relationship that works because when the relationship between the legislature and the executive is not cordial, the people would suffer. Nigerians need jobs and to achieve that, it is important for us to have a working relationship with the executive.”
